Absolutely Alice!

Alice In Wonderland Necklace

You will need:

a small glass bottle with a cork

a length of ribbon

water

glitter

food coloring

beading glue

card stock

various charms

1 Fill your bottle with water (I used rose water to fit the theme better even though you can’t smell it after sealing) and add a small amount of glitter and a single drop of food color.

2 Seal the cork with a strong but flexible glue such as beading glue.

If your cork doesn’t have a loop on it you can add one by drilling a hole through the side of the cork and adding a strong wire.

3 Cut a tiny tag from card stock paper and write “Drink Me” on it, or you can print it on before cutting if you don’t trust your handwriting.

Use a craft knife to “drill” a hole for the string.

4 To give the tag an antique look brew yourself some hot tea. Take the bag and pat it on the tag until it’s nice and wet. Blot the tag with paper towels and use your finger to GENTLY rough up the edges while it’s still damp.

Allow the tag to dry before moving to the next step. You can also stain the string for the tag in this same way.

Drink your tea while you wait. :)

5 After the tag is dry, loop your string through the hole you made before and tie it to the neck of the bottle. Add a dot of glue to the knot to keep it in place.

6 String your charms and bottle onto a length of ribbon so they form a nice little cluster or attach the charms to the loop on the cork if it is large enough.

At this point you can choose to add a clasp or simply tie the ribbon behind your neck.

Playing Card Hairclip

You will need some cards, glue, a hairclip, a needle and thread, scissors, and a button or two.

2 Cut lots of little teardrop shapes out of the cards. Arrange them in a flower shape and staple them together.

3 Sew the hairclip onto the back and also glue it in place for more stability.

4 Attach the button in the middle, and there you go. You’re done and it’s ready to wear!

Queen of Hearts Alice in Wonderland Wreath

Here’s what you need:

one 13” wood wreath from

4 or 5 bunches of red roses

1 bunch white roses

my trusty glue gun and several glue sticks

three 1- inch paint brushes

a few playing cards

red glitter (optional)

red paint + paint brush

white cardstock & a printer handy

Directions

First snip the red roses, leaving a couple inches worth of stem. With this sort of wreath, it’s easy to just wedge them in. Arrange all the red roses first until most the front side is covered. Then, take the red paint, and start painting the white roses red! {Just like the Queen likes ‘em!} Just 1/3 of the petals or so of you want these ones to be mostly white. Then set those aside to dry. Lay the paintbrushes down on newspaper, and use the glue gun to create a drop hanging off the bristles. No worries if the drop isn’t well shaped, you can simply trim it with scissors after it hardens. And no worries on the paper that will come with it once it’s dry. You can simply paint right over it. Set those aside to dry. Also add some red glitter to the wet paint on the brushes & roses if you would like.

When the white roses are dry, add a few of those to the wreath. Position your paintbrushes, and glue those down. This takes some work, getting them attached to petals, leaves, and the wreath so that they are secure. NOTE: Make sure your paint drops aren’t defying gravity!

Next tuck some playing cards in. Use the wood wreath to get them wedged in, then secure them with hot glue. Almost complete, but not quite! Printed off “The Queen, she likes ‘em red!” on white card stock, or paint them by hand. Using a round pencil, I curl the edges. Position the words and hot glue those down.

I should also note, with words I print off like this I like to spray the paper with a sealer/preserver.

Cheshire Cat Cupcakes

Of all the characters Alice meets up with during her adventures in Wonderland, the Cheshire Cat is undoubtedly one of the most intriguing. This mischievous feline has a habit of materializing at will, first in the Duchess’s kitchen, then on the branch of a tree, and later in the Queen’s croquet court. Inspired by the crafty cat that bemuses Alice, this cupcake is all grins — and likely to disappear in the blink of an eye.

For each cupcake, you’ll need:

A chocolate cupcake

Cupcake frosting, tinted light purple or lavender

Sour apple gummy ring

Kitchen knife

Skittles candies, 2 yellow ones for the eyes and 1 purple one for the nose

Black decorator’s gel or icing

A few chocolate sprinkles

Black or purple gumdrop

Instructions:

1. Frost half of the cupcake top, spreading the frosting in a wide arc that resembles a grin.

2. Flip over the sour apple gummy ring so the white side faces up. Cut a small section away from the top of the ring.

3. Now score the candy to create wide teeth.

4. Place the gummy teeth on the frosted portion of the cupcake, pressing down lightly to stick the candy in place.

5. Set the candies for the nose and eyes in place, centering them on the cupcake at the upper edge of the frosting. Top each eye with a small dot of black decorator’s gel or icing.

6. For whiskers, arrange a few chocolate sprinkles on both sides of the nose.

7. For the finishing touch, cut two matching triangles from the gumdrop and use dabs of frosting to stick them in place for the ears.

Edible Teacups

There is no shortage of teacups at the Mad Hatter’s unbirthday party. In fact, the cups rotate around the table so quickly Alice never gets so much as a sip of tea. Made from ice cream cones and cookies, these edible cup-and-saucer treat holders are a cinch to assemble and will ensure that each guest at your child’s tea party gets his or her fill.

For each teacup, you’ll need:

Cup-style wafer ice cream cone

Round sugar or shortbread cookie

Decorator’s icing

2 gummy rings candies

Assorted candies, popcorn, or trail mix to fill the teacup

Instructions:

1. Use a serrated knife to carefully cut the cup portion of the ice cream cone from the handle (an adult’s job). Discard the handle and set the cup aside for now.

2. Place a gummy ring candy on the center of the cookie, using decorator’s icing to “glue” it in place.

3. Set the ice cream cone cup on top of the gummy ring. Again, use a thin line of decorator’s icing to hold the cone in place, if needed.

4. For a teacup handle, slice the second gummy ring in half. Gently press the cut ends of one of the candy halves against the cone to stick the handle in place.

5. Fill the cup with a few candies or other snacks, and it’s teatime!

Alice in Wonderland Shadow Box

Whenever your life starts to feel a little mundane … open the cover and peer inside for a peek into Wonderland.

Template

Instructions:

Print out the shadow box on cardstock and cut out all of the pieces. Do not cut along the dashed lines — this is where you will fold the paper. Use a craft knife to cut out the white shape on the Top Cover, Top Liner, and Frame. Do not allow children to use the craft knife.

Stage and Backdrop

Fold all the tabs away from you on the stage except for the F tabs — fold those two tabs toward you. Glue the E and C tabs to the white side of the D tabs and then tuck and glue the B and A tabs like a box. Fold the A tab of the backdrop towards you and glue it to the white side of the part of the stage with the grass design. Now glue the F tabs to the back of the sides of the backdrop. Glue down the floor of the stage to secure it. Set aside these completed pieces for later.

Top Cover and Top Liner

Make all of the folds in the top cover away from you. Cut a piece of white tissue paper (the kind used in a gift bag) and glue it to the back white side of the top cover over where you cut out the heart. Make the folds in the top liner towards you and glue it over the tissue paper to secure it by gluing the A tab to the top liner. Make sure the point in the cut-out on the top liner lines up with the heart’s point.

Box Wrap and Frame

Make all of the folds in the box wrap and frame away from you. Use a craft knife to cut a slit in the latch on the frame so that you can slip the cover tab into it later. Glue the A tab of the frame to the bottom of the middle side of the box wrap. Glue the A tabs on the box wrap to the white side of the base of the frame.

Drop the completed stage and backdrop piece into the box and close it by gluing the B and C tabs on the frame to the inside of the box. Glue the cover piece to the top by tucking and gluing the B tabs on the cover to the inside of the top of the box. Glue down the flap on the back of the cover to the outside of the back of the box. Use the tabs on the characters to glue them to the stage floor. You’re finished!

Sweet Suitors

It doesn’t take long for Alice to discover that, in a place like Wonderland, anything can happen. After falling down the rabbit hole, she gets swept away in a flood of tears, witnesses a race in which the contestants run in a circle and everybody wins, and watches teapots dance on the table at an un-birthday party. But things really start rolling when she wanders into the Queen of Hearts’ court. There croquet balls are hedgehogs, mallets are flamingoes, and playing cards shuffle into place to serve as wickets. Here’s a clever way to transform an old deck into messengers that are well suited to reveal your child’s hand on Valentine’s Day.

You’ll need:

Heart templates

Scissors

Red and pink paper scrapbook paper

Black and red markers

Glue stick or glue dots

Red, pink, and white pipe cleaners

Playing cards, in the suit of hearts

Instructions:

1. Print out the templates and cut out the pieces.

2. For each suitor, use the templates to cut out a cape heart, a head heart, and two 1-inch squares for the feet from red paper. Cut out a face heart from pink paper.

3. Trim a red pipe cleaner so that it is 10 inches long. Glue the center portion to the back of the card, positioning it along the upper edge, as shown.

4. Fold down the very top of the cape heart, as shown.

5. Glue the cape in place, sticking the folded top to the front of the card and the portion below the fold to the back. Shape the arms, bending them at the elbows and looping the ends for hands.

6. Turn the head valentine so that the tip faces up. Glue the face heart in place. Draw on small red hearts for the nose and mouth. Use the black marker to outline the facial features and to extend the corners of the mouth into a smile. Glue the bottom edge of the head to the top of the card.

7. For feet, fold the red paper squares in half and cut a small notch in the fold near the back, as shown. Insert the bottom of the card into the notches.

8. For a staff, cut out a pair of matching hearts from scrap paper and glue them together, sandwiching the top of a 5-inch length of a pink or white pipe cleaner between them. Slide the bottom of the pipe cleaner through one of the hand loops.

Alice in Wonderland Shrink Charms

You’ll need:

White or clear shrink paper for Inkjet printers (you can purchase this at art/craft supply stores or online)

Smaller charms template (these work best for a charm bracelet)

or Larger charms template (these work best for necklaces or cell phone charms)

Scissors

Hole punch

Jewelry accessories

Instructions:

Print out the charms on shrink paper and cut out each charm.

Punch a hole where indicated. You must punch the hole before you bake the charm.

Follow the baking instructions on the shrink paper package to bake the charms in a toaster oven. Watch the shrink plastic dance and curl! (Don’t worry! It will flatten back out.) Do not allow children to use the toaster oven.

If the charm is still slightly curled when it is finished baking, use a piece of cardboard to flatten it completely.

Apply a couple coats of clear nail polish to seal the ink on the charm and make it water-resistant. Let it dry.

Add the charm to whatever you’d like! You can use jump rings and jewelry chain to create a charm bracelet or necklace, or attach it to a cell phone charm strap to decorate your phone or zipper pulls.
